Two full months have passed since I last sent the internet world a Lowe Down. I think only 5 people have noticed. A sad display, but then again at least someone noticed. And even if no one noticed, do you really think it would stop me for good?
The move has been done and gone. The house purchase completed. The new job started. The Final Four attended. A new home computer purchased. Wedding plans detailed. I feel like there is so much to talk about, yet I don't know where to start.
The move has been great for us. If anyone has any complaints, it is probably the dogs. They don't have a fenced in yard like they did in Nashville. At least, not yet. We want to work on that. We've been adjusting to life in Ohio. I like our surroundings. We've got farm land across the street, but are still close enough to all the shopping and dining we would possibly need. We really need to hit Cincinnati, but I think we'll wait until it warms up. We had some great weather in March, but the past week has been back to the frigid side. So much so, we've even had snow the last couple of days. In April. There is something wrong with that, but we can survive.
Our house is only about 12 minutes from my office. Which is nice. At Nashville we lived so close to Vanderbilt, I felt I would sometimes bring my frustrations home with me, and that is not fair. Now I have a little drive and can clear my head before I open the garage door. Hell, there are no frustrations at work yet, but good to know I have that little drive juuuuuust in case.
The job itself is a blast. I've been on the verge of nervous/scared/anxious since I accepted the job. Those feelings haven't changed a bit. I still feel all of those every day, but it reminds me I'm still alive. We did take a chance moving up here. I realize that every day when I'm asking 100 million questions at work. I have a lot to learn, but I'm thrilled I will be doing so at Miami. The university is tremendous, and both the development and athletic offices seem to be in great working order. This is my fifth university to work for, and I can honestly say I've never seen the type of affinity for a university I see here for Miami. The people LOVE this place. I'd say Georgia is a close second, but really the passion for Miami runs deep through just about everyone I meet. It is remarkable and really a great place for me to get my start in development.
I mentioned the garage door above, and honestly that is one of the things I really love about our house. I know that sounds silly, but I've never had a garage door. My parents used to keep their cars in the garage a long time ago, but then the cats moved in and we never used it again for cars. So to have a garage door opener is so cool to me. And we have a garbage disposal, an electric fire place, a nice size deck and an unfinished, walk-out basement. At some point, I'll throw some photos up on the website, I promise. I'm evening typing this today in our own home office! I love this space. We purchased a nice stately desk at Haverty's, and we have it positioned so I can look out the big windows to the front yard. I can also turn to my left and look through the French doors and into the den to check on our little critters. I love the fixtures in this house. They are all a brushed bronze, and the door handles are oval in shape. Not typical, which I love. We actually did our first painting job two weeks ago, making the office ready for its new furniture. We aren't professionals, but I think it turned out great. Now all we need to do is hang some pictures and put my Ric Flair action figure on the desk somewhere, and I'll be set.
I'll update more later. For now, I must go join our family so we can spend Easter Sunday together. Yes me, my future bride and our three children. Ah, the joys of home owning.
