It's been far too long

9/13/2013

One whole year has passed since I last wrote my note. It has been an amazing year. Lady A is continuing to grow, change and become more awesome. Courtney is yet again showing her brilliance by working, being a mom and completing yet another degree. Yes folks, I married up.

I've said it several times on my various social media outlets, but Courtney is an inspiration. She busts her tail constantly to be a great teacher, a great student and an even better mother. There will come a time when I sit Lady A down and tell her how inspiring her mother is. My hope is Lady A will understand this commitment one day and embrace it. She should. Her mom is amazing.

The past year has been a challenge for me too. Last August my role at work changed from strictly a major gift officer to oversight of the William C. Hartman, Jr. Fund. The Hartman Fund is the priority seating program associated with UGA football. There has been a tremendous amount to learn. Almost overwhelming. My dear friend Carolyn had oversight before she left for her alma mater, Richmond. Needless to say I have more respect for her today than I did two years ago ... Which is saying a lot, because I've held her on a pedestal since we started working together.

As challenging as it has been, it has also been a blessing. I've been able to dig further into the heart of our donors. My first five years here I spent a tremendous amount of time on the road, but I think I've probably talked with or visited with more donors this past year than any other year. The Hartman Fund is extremely important to our donors, as it dictates there positioning for seat assignments, away game, post-season, etc. However, I've come to realize how vital the Hartman Fund is to our very existence.

So life has changed, work has changed, Lady A has changed ... But through it all we have found the most important thing in our life is how we manage our days and each other. Jobs are important, don't get me wrong. Hopefully you have one as fulfilling as I do. At the same time, how I spend time with my family or friends during a given day is far more important to me. You will always get 110% from me in the office, but my girls take top priority. And that is perfectly fine by me.

Go Dawgs!
