Figuring out the Fall

10/27/2010

At times it is difficult to figure out if seasons are changing in Athens. Yesterday, my car told me it was 84 degrees outside. On October 26th. There are leaves on my lawn. Every day. My grass is starting to go dormant but isn't quite sure it wants to let the green go. I just carved a pumpkin tonight and am supposed to celebrate Halloween in a few days. There have been crazy rain storms all day and supposedly cooler weather is coming. So it is Fall ... right?

Like the season, there are times where we have to figure out who we are and what we want to be. Some various job opportunities have presented themselves over the past year or so, and each one has been given consideration. Yet I've politely declined each one. I recently heard the line, "sometimes the best moves are the ones not made." A career in college athletics always present opportunity. Simply look at the coaching landscape. Changes happen every year.

Admittedly, I still strongly believe I am determining the type of person and administrator I want to become. The two are very different roles but still reflect self image. As I continue to grow as both a person and as an employee, there is hope positivity will remain. It is easy to be distracted and make poor choices. My goal is to not allow that to happen.

The past month has been great. We've been able to travel to Colorado to visit with our good friends Kacie & Joe. I admire their passion for the outdoors and all living things. While we were only out there a few days, we were fortunate to see so much. I've grown to admire the greatest qualities of my friends. Kacie & Joe opened my eyes to many things to which I never even give a second thought. It was an inspirational trip, despite the football game (UGA should not have lost to Colorado, but did).

A few other home football games, some enjoyable couch time, dinners with friends and a pumpkin patch visit with the God kids has made the last couple of weeks fly by. While I sit here and try to figure out the Fall, life and my Halloween costume, hopefully you are enjoying life. Don't let the days burn by.
