I'm not sure if it is the fact I am now closer to 40 than 20, but man I struggled to sober up this past Sunday after a kick ass night out on the town in Saint Simons. Maybe I really am getting old. No, it can't be. I remember my parents partying well into my post-college years. They still do a little, but not like they used to. Maybe I am out of practice. Yeah, I think I should practice more.
Regardless, the weekend on the Island was outstanding. Flip joined us in Athens Thursday and we were able to slightly relive some of our grad school experiences by hitting places like Washington Street Tavern. I actually heard that place might shut down after this coming year. Very sad. I think my parents should buy it and we can return it to its former glory. That place used to be the joint! And as Dad reminds me, it was voted one of the top 10 college bars by Playboy magazine. Well, at least it was in the top 10 back in the day.
Friday, we hit the road to SSI and were joined later in the night by Doug, Lindsey, Catherine and Melanie. The weekend, some of which is still a blur, was just what we all needed. A little r&r, a little partying, a little ice cream cake for my birthday ... well ok, maybe I just needed that ... a little time on the beach and a little drinking. Ok, a lot. Regardless, it was a great time to be out with great friends and just chill.
So I just finished watching the ESPN piece on Kimbo Slice. First off, let me say I remember watching his videos on youtube in 2005 and to me, he is the scariest man on earth. Word to the wise, if you try and youtube him now you will find some really gruesome street fights. His background is not for PG viewers. Doug actually put on one of his MMA fights while we were living at his house, and he beat Tank Abbott's ass in about 1 minute. I don't follow a lot of MMA stuff, but Tank apparently used to be one of the big dogs. There are some fights on CBS tonight, so I've already got them set to record. Despite the doubt some of the professionals in the sport have, Kimbo seems ready to take it over. I'm all for it. He would be the reason for me to start watching those types of fights. Oh, and my buddy Raph.
Took in the opening NCAA baseball game for UGA yesterday. I take full responsibility for our team losing to Lipscomb. It is the curse of Nashville. Hopefully the boys can rebound today against Louisville. I'm just pleased FSU lost as well. At least we weren't the only national seed to drop the opener. Still, it was ugly.
A big thank you to my boy Thomas for sending me this clip.
Yes, I still watch wrestling and that move is outstanding. Best part about watching wrestling in the new house? We get it in HD. Sweet.
The parents are making their return to Athens for Father's Day weekend. It'll be great to have them down. They love Athens, and I imagine the first thing they will want to do will be to head downtown. Yes, my parents love downtown Athens. Can you blame them? The bars are great, there are interesting shops and always interesting people (i.e., hippies). Sounds like they are brining Sally, their dog, so our rugrats will have another mutt to play with. That is what the big back yard is for. Well, playing and apparently digging holes.
Is anyone else as excited as I am about the Lakes/Celtics NBA finals? This is the first time in many years I can honestly say I WANT to watch every game. If the NBA does not capitalize on this, they are morons. This is a chance for them to regain many of the viewers they've lost over the years. Forget throwback jerseys, THIS is nostalgia. Might have to dig out my old Lakers t-shirts and cheer like I am 10 again. And even though I never pulled for Boston as a kid, there is just something about hearing that chant from the (new)Garden ... "BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA!." This is gonna be awesome. Please God, make it go 7 games.
Court and I have tried to be better about taking pictures. While we don't believe pictures steal your soul, we do think they are great reminders of wonderful times you have with friends and family. So we've started posting a lot of these on our Picasa album. They are fun. They are goofy. They are just plain odd. Enjoy.
Off to figure out what the weekend holds ... rock on.
