The Deacs open up their season tomorrow with App State at good ole Hooks Stadium. Coach, I wish you and the fellas all the best in the upcoming season. I don't know if I'll make it back to Hooks this year for a game, but let's just say I'll see you in Omaha!
The G man and the baseball Deacs were easily my favorite team to pull for in my two years at Wake. Coach is a real stand up guy who tells you like it is. You piss him off, you'll know. You do good things for him, he appreciates it. His assistants, Jamie and Holmesie, as well as the team are all great people. I was proud to be associated with that team.
Oh, and Coach Greer ... sorry about closing The Red Zone down. That bum Big Red never gave me any of his material. If Red wants to say one last goodbye to the internet, I'll offer him the space.
So back to life ... had a great weekend. After working Friday and Saturday morning, drove up to Milwaukee to hang out with Big Red, Dean, Kelsey and the Wake Forest basketball crew. Had dinner with the fellas and sipped on a few drinks with Red, Dean, Kels and Flippen, who I suckered into making the trip with me. Flip and I kinda cheated though ... we had one drink around 5:30. In Miller Park. Yeap, home of the Brewers. Pretty sweet little restaurant they had there.
After a wee hangover, hit the Bradley Center for the Marquette/Wake game. Tough loss for the Deacs. They just couldn't seem to find a rhythm. Maybe Dook was on their mind ... this Thursday the Deacs have Dook in the Joel. Go get 'em Deacs! Damn, I just hate Dook.
And I told Kels this last night ... working for Coach Skip Prosser and that team made pulling for Wake so much easier. I grew up a Tar Heel fan, and it was difficult as hell to pull for Wake my first year. The coaching staff on that team now is one of the best in the country. Not only that, but they are great damn people. It makes cheering for them a pleasure. No question.
I apologize for being away so long. Work has been ... hectic. I use that term so much, but seldom do people who don't work in athletics or the world of sport understand what that entails. Hey, everyone gets busy. It's a way of life. Some things I just let fall by the wayside, such as this web page or my email. I'm the biggest procrastinator with email. I let them just pile up in my inbox until there are 80 messages in there dating back six months. I'm trying to work on it. I'm trying to work on a lot of things. I love my job, but I need outlets. I've started to work out a little and plan on continuing that for a long time. I've decided that if I can't find the time to take guitar lessons, they'll just have to come to me ... in the mail. So I bought a DVD that teaches guitar lessons. I'm not sure how this is going to work out, but we'll see. A rockstar AD. That's all I wanna be.
Back to real life kids. Three hoops games this week, a silly holiday and the arrival of my PlayStation 2. Should be an interesting week.
