Work was closed the first three days this week, with a delay until 11am today. Another delay is in place tomorrow. In the South, the snow never really causes an issue. The lack of machines to deal with the issues which come from melting snow? That is another issue.
The city of Atlanta has been beat up pretty good with their "lack" of handling the winter storm. If you live in the North, I'm sure it is easy to watch CNN interview all of the locals down here and think, "wow, those idiots can't deal with a little snow?" I'm certainly not an expert on tax payer dollars and how they are spent, but it makes sense to realize why we are not prepared for this type of storm. We aren't used to it.
Working in event management for so many years taught me the appreciation of the contingency plan. Basically the old scout motto of always be prepared was my best friend. At the end of the day though, it is difficult to be truly prepared for every possible thing which could happen. Georgia is used to maybe a couple of inches in the month of January. Maybe.

Salem and Yoda love the snow. They would've spent all day out there had we let them. Sherman, not so much. Little guy doesn't like to get his feet wet. The real challenge came when the snow froze over so much the dogs couldn't walk very well on it. Actually made for some good comedy.
No doubt, I still love the snow. Making fires in the fireplace is comforting. Drinking hot chocolate and watching snow fall is a blast. Playing in the snow was much more fun when I was young, but helping Courtney make her first ever snowman gave me a rush of childhood adrenaline.
Sure, we aren't prepared for this weather down here and we don't have enough equipment to deal with it. Sure, in Ohio or Illinois I would've been at work all week despite the weather, and of course work is very important. But sometimes, sometimes getting snowed in is just as good at 33 as it was at 7.
