Last Sunday I was fortunate enough to see Vertical take the stage in Nashville. The show was very solid, and probably ranks in my top VH shows. Remember, you are reading the words of a man who has been to probably 40+ VH shows. An addict? Yes. The guys have left RCA records, and they seem to be very pleased with their direction. I don't believe any band likes to loose the "label" security, but when a label doesn't take care of you or promote your album, it is a headache. The guys are taking some time off and then will be back on the road after the New Year. I can't wait.
I'm heading back "home" this weekend. Today, I will leave for Athens and UGA's homecoming game against ... yes, Vanderbilt. Mixed emotions, certainly. But I do know who pays my checks! I will be sporting Vandy colors all weekend, as strange as that will be. The game is on JP in the southeast, so catch it if you can.
The only thing keeping me watching baseball this late in the year is the hope the Yankees will loose. I'm very much pulling for the Red Sox in the east. It is hard to have a real interest when your team is out of the race by, oh say, JUNE! Ugh. And it looks like the Jays will probably loose Carols Delgado to free agency. I'm not sure how much worse it could get up in Toronto.
Most of you remember my good friend Brian Newport, Newpy. Well, the ARGUS group always used to joke about what our "VH 1: Behind the Band," would be like. One of the leading thoughts of controversy was for Newpy to have some sort of addiction. We thought pixie sticks would be a great addiction for Newp to have, so we always came up with these ridiculous ideas of how VH1 would capture a Newpy pixie stick induced tirade. Well, Newp himself has given us a tongue in cheek look at the reason he is no longer with ARGUS. And really, he'll always be with us. He carries our band. With his own two hands.
That's it kids. Off to Athens.
